Limiting access for children

If children will be using the PS4™ system, parents or guardians can restrict access to certain content or features by using parental controls.
Sony Entertainment Network also provides sub accounts for users under a certain age. The master account holder sets the conditions of use for sub accounts. For details, see "PlayStation™Network".

To prevent your children from logging in to the PS4™ system using a master account, set a master account passcode. To set a passcode, select (Settings) > [Users] > [Login Settings] > [Passcode Management].

What the parent or guardian can do Explanation How to set limitations
Prevent children from starting applications and playing games or videos that have an age restriction. You can set a parental control level to restrict the use of game and video content by age.
Your PS4™ system reads the rating and recommended age information included in the game or video software. The system will play only the age appropriate content for the parental control level you set.
You can configure settings under (Settings) > [Parental Controls] > [Restrict Use of PS4 Features].
For details, see "Restrict Use of PS4 Features".
Restrict use of PlayStation®VR You can disallow use of the VR headset.
Restrict use of the Internet browser. You can disallow use of (Internet Browser) on your PS4™ system.
Restrict login to only those users created on your PS4™ system. You can disallow guest login and new user creation on your PS4™ system. This prevents children from logging in and bypassing the parental controls that you’ve set for them.
Block objectionable web sites when using the Internet browser. You can make use of an external web filtering service that blocks fraudulent and unsafe websites. This service can also prevent access to websites unsuitable for children.*1
Block use of the Chat/Message feature for PlayStation™Network. You can block PlayStation™Network communication functions such as text chat, voice chat and messaging with other users. You can configure settings under (Settings) > [Parental Controls] > [Sub Account Management].
For details, see "Sub Account Management".
