Adding Friends

When you send a Friend request to a player and it is accepted, that player becomes your Friend. When you become Friends, you can see things like that Friend's PlayStation™Network sign-in status and the game that Friend is playing.

Select (Friends) from the function screen.

Sending a Friend request

Search for a player to send a Friend request to, with one of the following methods.

Search for a player by online ID or real name

Select (Search).
2.
Enter the player's online ID or real name.
3.
From the search results, select the player to send a Friend request to.
4.
Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Search among fellow players

1.
Select (Players Met).
Fellow players appear, grouped by game or application.
2.
Select the player you want to send a Friend request to.
3.
Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Searching by players you may know

1.
Select (Online).
2.
Select [Players You May Know].
Players who have close Friends (Friends who have accepted a real-name request) in common, or players with Facebook® friends are displayed.

Select [Send Friend Request], which is displayed to the right of the player that you want to send the Friend request to.
  • If you send a Friend request to a player whose real name is displayed and the player accepts the request, your real name will also be displayed to that player.
  • When (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] > [Connecting with Friends] > [Players You May Know] is enabled, names of players you may know will appear in the Friends lists of other players and you can find fellow players more easily.

Canceling a Friend request

Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Highlight the player whose Friend request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Friend Request].

Accepting a Friend request

Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Select [Accept] to the right of the player whose Friend request you want to accept.
If you select the player, that player's profile is displayed.
  • To reject a Friend request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Friend Request].
  • You can set the players from whom you receive Friend requests. You can also set not to display your real name in other players' search results. For details, see "Privacy Settings".
  • You can report inappropriate comments. On the player's profile screen, select [View Friend Request], press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Submit Grief Report].

Requesting a Friend's real name

If you send a real-name request and your Friend accepts it, the real name registered to that person's Sony Entertainment Network account appears. Your real name is also displayed to that person.

  • If you have set a profile picture, it is also displayed.
  • Real name requests cannot be sent or received by players with sub accounts.
  • You can set who can see your real name and profile picture under (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings].

Sending a real-name request

Select [Request Real Name] from the Friend's profile screen.

Canceling a real-name request

1.
Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Highlight the player whose real-name request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Real-Name Request].

Accepting a real-name request

1.
Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Select [Accept] to the right of the player whose real-name request you want to accept.

To reject a real-name request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Real-Name Request].
