Adding Friends

When a player accepts your Friend request, that player becomes your Friend. When you become Friends, you can see things like that Friend's PlayStation™Network sign-in status and the game that Friend is playing.

To add Friends, select (Friends) from the function screen.

Sending a Friend request

Send a Friend request using one of these methods.

Search for a player by online ID or real name

Select (Search).

Enter the player's online ID or real name.
3.
From the search results, select the player to send a Friend request to.
4.
Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Search among your Favorite Groups

1.
Select (Favorite Groups).
2.
Select a group.
3.
Select (Add Friend) next to the player that you want to send a Friend request to.

Search among Communities

1.
Select a Community in (Communities).
2.
Select the player to send a Friend request to in [Members].
3.
Select [View Profile].
4.
Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Search among fellow players

1.
Select (Players Met).
Fellow players appear, grouped by game or application.

Select the player you want to send a Friend request to.
3.
Select [Send Friend Request] from the profile screen.

Searching by players you may know

1.
Select (All Friends).
2.
Select [Players You May Know].
Players who have close Friends (Friends who have accepted a real-name request) in common, or players with Facebook® friends appear.

Select [Send Friend Request], which appears next to the player that you want to send the Friend request to.
  • When a player's real name appears, your real name will appear to that player if they accept a Friend request from you.
  • You can choose who can see your real name and profile picture in Players You May Know, allowing you to be found by others more easily. Select (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings] > [Connecting with Friends] > [Players You May Know].
  • To remove a player from [Players You May Know], select the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Remove from List]. The player no longer appears in the list.

Canceling a Friend request

Select (Friend Requests).

Highlight the player whose Friend request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Friend Request].

Accepting a Friend request

Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Select [Accept] next to the player whose Friend request you want to accept.
When you select the player, that player's profile appears.
  • To reject a Friend request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Friend Request].
  • Privacy settings let you limit the players from whom you receive Friend requests. You can also hide your real name from other players' search results. For details, see "Privacy Settings".
  • To report inappropriate comments, press the OPTIONS button on the player's profile screen, and then select [Report].

Requesting a Friend's real name

When your real-name request is accepted by a player, you become Friends and you can see each other's real names, as registered with your Sony Entertainment Network accounts.

  • Profile pictures, if set, will appear to Friends who have accepted real name requests.
  • Sub account holders cannot send or receive real-name requests.
  • Choose who can see your real name and profile picture under (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Privacy Settings].

Sending a real-name request

Select [Request Real Name] from the Friend's profile screen.

Canceling a real-name request

Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Highlight the player whose real-name request you want to cancel, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Cancel Real-Name Request].

Accepting a real-name request

1.
Select (Friend Requests).
2.
Select [Accept] next to the player whose real-name request you want to accept.

To reject a real-name request, highlight the player, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Delete Real-Name Request].

Blocking players

If you block another player, messages from the blocked player will not appear, and some other functions will be limited.
On the Friend's profile screen, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Block].

Unblocking players

1.
On the Friends screen, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Players Blocked].

With the player to unblock highlighted, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Unblock].

Removing from Friends

On the Friend's profile screen, press the OPTIONS button, and then select [Remove from Friends].
