Turning the power on

Press the power button. When your system turns on, the power indicator lights up.

When you plug the power cord into an electrical outlet, your system is automatically turned on.

The first time you use your system, connect your system and a controller with a USB cable, and then register (pair) the controller to your system. Press the PS button on the controller after your system is turned on.

Turning off your system, or putting your system into standby mode

Select (Power) on the home screen, or press and hold the PS button on the controller. Select [Standby] on the screen that is displayed. The power indicator on the front of your system turns off and your system enters standby mode.
To turn on your system from standby mode, press the PS button on a registered controller, or press the power button on your system.

  • When your system is in standby mode, network features remain enabled.
  • With the default setting, when your system is idle for two hours, it automatically enters standby mode. Depending on the state of some applications, such as when a slideshow or video is playing, your system might not automatically enter standby mode.

Turning off the power completely

Select (Power) on the home screen, or press and hold the PS button on the controller. Select [Power Off] on the screen that is displayed. Your system and the power indicator on the front of your system turn off.

When your system is not operating correctly

Turn off the power, and then turn on the power again by pressing and holding the power button on your system for at least 7 seconds. After that, connect a controller to the system with a USB cable and press the PS button on the controller. The safe mode screen is displayed. Safe mode is a mode in which fewer system functions are available, in order to help solve problems. Select the necessary items, and follow the on-screen instructions. If the power will not turn off normally, press and hold the power button on your system for at least 15 seconds. Your system restarts, and the safe mode screen is displayed.
