Entering characters

An on-screen keyboard appears when you need to enter text. Select the characters you want to enter using the directional buttons or the touch pad, and then either press the cross button or click the touch pad. After you finish entering text, press the R2 button to confirm your entry, or the circle button to exit the keyboard.
You can also use the controller's motion sensor to enter characters by selecting (switch operation). Tilt the controller up, down, left, and right to select characters.

Keyboard
(Delete character) Delete the character to the left of the cursor.
(Move field to field) Use this key to move to the next field when there are multiple text entry fields.
(Search/Send/Go/Done) The function of this key changes as necessary.
(Line break) Move the cursor to the next line.
(Switch operation) Use the controller's motion sensor to move the pointer. If you lose sight of the pointer, select this key again. The pointer will appear at the center of the screen.
Press any of the directional buttons to resume using the directional buttons to move the pointer.
(Options) Use this key to copy and paste text, and add frequently used terms to the user dictionary. You can also access this key by pressing the OPTIONS button.
(Switch keyboards) This is available only when you set multiple input languages under (Settings) > [Language] > [Input Languages].
(Move cursor) Use these keys to move the text cursor.
(Uppercase letter entry) Use this key to enter an uppercase letter. To enter multiple uppercase letters, select this twice. Select it again to return to lowercase letter entry.
(Numbers/Symbols) Enter numbers and symbols.
(Change character types) Choose from alternative character sets.

Available keys vary depending on the language (keyboard) being used for text entry.

Copying and pasting text

Copying

1.
Place the cursor at the start of the text you want to copy, and then select (Options).

Choose [Select] or [Select All].
If you choose [Select], move the cursor to the end of the text you want to copy, and then press the cross button.
3.
Select [Copy].

Pasting

1.
Select (Options) at the place where you want to paste the text.
2.
Select [Paste].

Adding frequently used terms

You can add terms to the user dictionary for each language (keyboard) to be used for predictive text entry.

1.
Place the cursor at the start of the term you want to add, and then select (Options).
2.
Choose [Select] or [Select All].
If you choose [Select], move the cursor to the end of the term you want to add, and then press the cross button.
3.
Select [Add Term].
4.
Select [OK].
  • You cannot add terms for some languages.
  • You can edit or delete terms under (Settings) > [Language] > [Input Languages] > [Keyboards and User Dictionary].
