Using parental controls

Parents and guardians can set parental controls on a PS Vita system to limit the ability of children and teenagers to play content and use system features.
Sony Entertainment Network also provides sub accounts for users who do not meet the eligibility requirements for a master account in their region. See "Creating an account" for details.

What the parent or guardian can do Explanation How to set limitations
Limit starting applications and playing games and videos that have age limitations

The parent or guardian can set the parental control level for the PS Vita system to [Off] or to one of 11 levels. Whether or not applications can be started or content can be played is determined by the combination of the parental control level for the PS Vita system and the parental control level of the application or content.

Make these settings in (Settings) > [Start] > [Security] > [Parental Controls].

Allow or disallow the use of the browser The parent or guardian can set whether (Browser) can be started.
Allow or disallow the use of location data The parent or guardian can set whether to allow the use of location data.
Block objectionable sites The parent or guardian can make use of a web filtering service that checks the type and safety of sites when the Internet is being used and automatically prevents dangerous or harmful sites from being displayed.*1 Make these settings in (Browser) > [Start] > (Options) > [Settings] > [Security] > [Trend Micro Web Security].
Allow or disallow the use of chat

The parent or guardian can set the level of chat access in PlayStation®Network. By selecting [Do Not Allow], the parent or guardian can disallow the use of the features shown below.
This parental control does not restrict communication via (Group Messaging).

  • Joining (Party)
  • Joining chat sessions in games
  • Using activity features
  • Publishing information to Facebook®
Make these settings in (Settings) > [Start] > [PlayStation®Network] > [Sub Account Management].

Allow or disallow the display of the content available in PlayStation®Store*2 based on age The parent or guardian can set whether to allow the display of the content based on the age of the sub account holder.
Set the maximum amount of funds that can be spent at PlayStation®Store*2 The parent or guardian can set the maximum monthly amount of funds that can be spent at PlayStation®Store.
