Playing PlayStation® format software on your system

You can download and play PlayStation® format software on your system.
Download games from (PS Store). For details, see "Playing a game downloaded from PlayStation®Store".

  • When playing a game by yourself, assign the controller to "1" (blue). Controller assignments can be adjusted in the quick menu that appears when you press and hold the PS button.
  • Some PlayStation® format software is not compatible with your system.
  • Some games cannot be copied from the PS3™ system to your system, or cannot be downloaded using your system.

Playing PlayStation® format software

The basic operations are the same as those for a game on a PlayStation®Vita card. For details, see "Playing a game on a PlayStation®Vita card".

  • After you start playing a game, you can adjust the resolution for your TV. Note that if the resolution for the game and your TV do not match, the game will not start.
  • For the equivalent of the SELECT button when using a DUALSHOCK™4 wireless controller, press the SHARE button or press the left side of the touch pad button. For the equivalent of the START button, press the OPTIONS button or press the right side of the touch pad button.

Saved data for PlayStation® format software

Saved data for PlayStation® format software is saved on virtual memory cards created on the memory card.
A virtual memory card is created automatically when you start PlayStation® format software and save your game. For each application, two virtual memory cards (for MEMORY CARD slots 1 and 2) are created with the same name as the title of the game.

  • The maximum amount of saved data that can be stored in one virtual memory card is 15 blocks. The number of blocks required to save data varies depending on the software in use.
  • Saved data for PlayStation® format software is managed separately from the application data (game data).
  • You can use (Content Manager) to copy or back up saved data onto a PS3™ system or computer.
  • If a game is supported by multiple systems, you can copy and play existing saved data for that game from a PS3™ system or PSP™ system. For details, see "Copying and playing saved data on multiple systems".

Adjusting PlayStation® format software

While PlayStation® format software is running, press and hold the PS button to display the quick menu, and then select [Settings].
The settings displayed vary depending on the game.

Screenshot

You can take screenshots during gameplay in games that support the screenshot feature. You can view the captured screenshots in (Photos).

Switch Discs

Some PlayStation®format software requires the switching of discs. When playing such games on your system, the switching of discs is performed virtually.

Controller Settings

You can change controller settings during gameplay.

Switch Modes You can switch the controller mode. Switch to a mode that supports the game you are playing. For some games, the mode is selected automatically.

If the software you are using supports the controller vibration function, perform the settings below to enable it:

  • In the controller's settings, switch the mode of the controller to analog mode.
  • In the quick menu that appears when you press and hold the PS button, set a checkmark in [Enable Vibration].
  • If there is a setting within the game for the vibration function, turn that on also.

Memory Card Utility

You can import saved data to a virtual memory card or delete saved data from a virtual memory card.

The virtual memory card for the game that is running is displayed on the left side of the screen. You can switch between MEMORY CARD slot 1 and 2 with (Left) and (Right).


You can import saved data using the following method:

Select [Import].
Another virtual memory card appears on the right side of the screen. Select the virtual memory card containing the saved data you want to import with (Left) and (Right).

Select the saved data you want to import.
3.
Select [Copy].

You can delete saved data using the following method:

1.
Select the saved data you want to delete.
2.
Select [Delete].

Other settings

While playing a game, you can adjust settings such as those for the screen and volume.

PocketStation™を並べて表示する (Display Application Side-by-Side with PocketStation™) While PlayStation® format software compatible with PocketStation™ is in use, you can verify what is displayed on the PocketStation™ screen.
Disc Load Speed You can adjust disc load speed. If you select [Fast], disc load speed will be improved.

With some games, the effects of this function might be hard to see, and the graphics might be rough even when this function is enabled. In this case, adjust this setting to [Normal] or disable this function.

Reset Game

You can reset a game.

Playing on PocketStation™

Select the icon of a game compatible with PocketStation™.

If you have not used the application before, the (PlayStation®Store) icon is displayed instead. Download the PocketStation™ for PlayStation®Vita application from (PlayStation®Store).

To start a game with PocketStation™, start the PlayStation® format software, and then download the corresponding PocketStation™ game. Downloads and the operations that you can perform differ by game. For details, see the instructions for the game.

Switching the virtual memory card to PocketStation™

To use PocketStation™ while PlayStation® format software is running, you must switch the virtual memory card to PocketStation™. Press and hold the PS button to display the quick menu, and then select [Settings] > [Memory Card Utility] > [Change to PocketStation™].

Button assignments

The following buttons are used for controlling PocketStation™.

Operations performed with the directional buttons can also be performed with the left stick.

Adjusting PocketStation™ settings

You can select options to display the PocketStation™ operating instructions, verify the ID number, and use the optical communication feature. While PocketStation™ is running, press and hold the PS button to display the quick menu, and then select [Settings].

  • 光通信(アドホックモード)(Optical Communication (Ad Hoc) Mode)
    You can use your system's ad hoc mode to connect with your Friends and play games that support optical communications.
  • Screen Mode
    You can set the mode you want to display. If you select [画像(Image)] > [Change], a list of content is displayed. Select an item to set it as the background image. In the list of content, only 960 × 544 pixel PNG files that can be set as the background image are displayed.
